Exhibition Area

Today the cultural and historical heritage of Oryahovo region is presented in 3 exhibition halls.

Archaeological Hall attracts the attention with excavations from different periods from the Neolithic period until the Late Middle ages. Among these one can enjoy seeing the old Mycenaean bronze swords, votive tablet of God Silvan, images of God Mithra, stone early Christian cross. One of the most valuable exhibition objects is the unique state of the Good Herdsman from the beginning of IV century, which was displayed in 2 exhibitions, devoted to the early Christian art in Rome, Italy and in Brussels, Belgium.
"Revival Period" Hall reveals the main tendencies in the development of the region during XV-XIX century. The exhibited exhibition objects and photographs are connected with the revival activities during this period, with the activities of the local revolutionary committee for the liberation of Oryahovo form Rumanian and Turkish troops in November 1877. A rich collection of rifles and blank weapon is exhibited.

Icons from the Revival Church "St. George", built in 1837, are exhibited in the third Hall. These are works of art made by Vasil Iliev - the Macedonian from the Debar School.

Another two ethnographic exhibitions "National customs and culture" and "City Culture in the town of Oryahovo during the period XIX-XX century" are arranged in the historical museum in a Revival House, which is part of the old market place "charshiya". In the same building are exhibited pictures from En plain airs carried out in the town, which are part of the main collection of the museum.

The life and activities of the genius composer Diko Iliev, who lived for 42 years in Oryahovo and had written the extremely famous Danube horo, are all represented in the open for visitors House-Museum.
